The advertisement said Mocrea was developed by Chinese Academy of Military Medical Sciences and improved immune system response, reducing symptoms in approximately 85 per cent of 597 elderly patients in six hospitals.
By all standards the advert sounded scientific:

* First, this extract was developed in a modern Chinese Academy of Military Science. It is not a Chinese traditional medicine.

* Its effectiveness (as per the advertisement) was scientifically documented.

* It was allegedly used by medical specialists.

According to Cap 244 of the Laws of Kenya, this advert should never have been placed. Instead, the drug promoters should have sought registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, who would have verified the claim and assessed the drug's safety.

Can anyone tell me about a Chinese Herb Formula?
Can anyone tell me about a Chinese Herb Formula used in Africa called "Mocrea" - no other information known to me other than the name?

I don't know much about this product, but there is some information available on the web. It is a natural herbal product produced by a Chinese company. There have been some claims by people trying to sell it that it is a "cure" for HIV. There is absolutely no evidence to support that claim or that it is effective against HIV in any way at all. I would not waste my time or money on this product.

Research on herbal drugs
There have been numerous articles on herbal drugs prescribed by Chinese traditional doctors. True, there is a problem here since most of these people are of dubious qualifications and cannot communicate in English or Kiswahili. 
But I am writing about a product called MOCREA. It has been advertised as a drug for managing Aids. I have done independent research and discovered that MOCREA contains ginseng and fructus lycium. 

Ginseng has been shown to have immuno stimulatory activity and fructus lycium induces interferon synthesis and has antiviral effects. Both are beneficial in Aids treatment and, therefore, though one cannot claim that MOCREA is a cure for Aids, it can help manage HIV infection.

What I am saying is that not all herbal products are bad. What we need to do is help people forced to use the services of herbalists by carrying out independent research on herbal products.
