INFERTILITY
DO CHINESE HERBS AND ACUPUNCTURE HELP INFERTILITY?
It has been reported that one out of six couples have difficulty conceiving. Men and women are almost equally responsible for infertility.
There are many factors influencing human reproductively. However, there are new treatments, new options, and the use of alternative medicine in treating infertility.
Chinese herbs and medicine have been used for centuries to treat both men and women for infertility. The development of new techniques increases the efficacy of
infertility treatments with each passing day. In China, doctors use both the ancient medical arts (Chinese herbs and acupuncture) and modern techniques for the treatment
of infertility. In the United States, couples who have failed to conceive using modern (western) techniques turn to doctors who practice the ancient medical arts and who
have been recommended by grateful patients. You can find records of numerous successful cases, resulting from the application of ancient medical arts on the Internet, and
also in books and magazines. The difference between Chinese medical art and Western medical techniques is that the former provides treatment based on the medical condition
of the individual not on some universal formula. However, if the ancient medical arts are combined with western medical techniques, the success rate will be higher.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER THE COUPLE AS A UNIT WHEN EVALUATING
INFERTILITY?
In Asia, Africa and many other countries, if couples are married for years and do not conceive, the female is blamed in most cases, thereby
placing the wife under a great deal of stress. However, the responsibility for the failure to conceive must be borne equally by both men and women at a ratio of 50:50. In
some cases, no cause can be found in either partner. If a couple is infertile and wants to conceive, they should have a fertility evaluation in order to ascertain the
cause of the failure and what steps can be taken to correct the condition.
WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS FOR CONCEPTION?
In my experience, certain events must take place in order for conception to occur. These are:
1. Ovulation- the release of an egg from one of the ovaries
2. Fertilization- the uniting of the egg and the sperm in the fallopian tube
3. Implantation- the attachment of the fertilized egg to the lining of the uterus
If there is a disturbance in any of the above, infertility is the result.
WHAT CAUSES INFERTILITY?
There are numerous causes for infertility. It can be from a single cause in the man or woman. Most often, however,
infertility stems from a combination of factors in either or both partners, therefore both partners should be present when an evaluation is being
made.
INFERTILITY IN MEN
If there are not enough sperm, or the sperm are not active enough, or the passage is blocked, or there is an ejaculation
problem, infertility will result. There are also a number of other factors, which may contribute to male infertility:
1. STD, such as gonorrhea or chlamydeous
2. Fever or infections, such as mumps, which often occur in puberty
3. Surgery of the reproductive tract, undescended testes, hernia, disorder of the prostate gland, or cancer
4. Damage to the vers deferens, most often by vasectomy
5. Varicocele
6. Using certain drugs, such as those used for depression or HTN
7. Exposure of the testes to high temperatures
8. Use of tobacco, marijuana or alcohol
9. Medical problems such as diabetes
10. Genetic or hormonal problems
INFERTILITY IN WOMEN
Women may be infertile because of hormone imbalance or problems of the reproductive tract. Abnormalities that can cause or
add to female infertility include:
1. Abnormal hormone levels
2.Obesity (more than 30%), which may cause problems with ovulation
3. Tumors or fibroids of the uterus
4. Endometriosis
5. Adhesions or PID
6.Poor quality of cervical mucus
7.Antibodies that attack her partner's sperm
8. Medical problem such as thyroid or diabetes
9. Tobacco, alcohol or marijuana
10. Genetic condition such as Turner's Syndrome
DOES THE IMMUNE SYSTEM AFFECT
INFERTILITY?
Definitely. The influence of immunity on infertility is often overlooked. The immune system views sperm as an antigen;
therefore, an antibody or anti-sperm will develop when the sperm contacts the woman's body. When a couple finds no reason for infertility, a detailed test for antibodies
of sperm is often positive.
CAN THE CONDITION OF POSITIVE ANTIBODIES OF SPERM BE
TREATED?
Yes. The antibody to sperm or antisperm is an incomplete antibody and does not exist in one's body forever. If sperm does not
touch your partner for a certain period, the incomplete antibody or antisperm destroys itself. There is a special Chinese formula, which enables the positive antibody or
antisperm to become negative.
DOES MOOD AFFECT FERTILITY?
Yes. Especially stress caused by the pressures of society and family, failure after desperately and blindly trying,
disappointments and marital crises.
CAN ARTIFICIAL MISCARRIAGE BRING ABOUT INFERTILITY?
Artificial miscarriage may bring about secondary infertility and infection, which results in blockage of the
Fallopian tubes or the womb becoming glued. Artificial miscarriage may also lead to endometriosis and ovary dysfunctions.
